Biography

Steven Dorval, CFA

Steve Dorval is a successful, growth-oriented leader and innovative thinker with proven experience building high-performing teams that deliver mission critical business results. Skilled at conceiving and articulating a compelling vision of new businesses and products to employees, investors, and senior executives. Steve is known to be passionate about leveraging cutting edge technology and changing consumer preferences to radically improve access to the financial services industry and to revolutionize existing customer experiences to deliver better outcomes. He has demonstrated success recruiting, developing, and retaining top tier-talent in both in startup and large company environments.

 

Steve is the Founder and President of Dorval Advisory Group where he educates and consults to startups on how to be Enterprise ready.  He leverages his extensive executive experience at both large enterprises and startups to improve startup's go to market strategy for large enterprise prospects.


Most recently, Steve was the Head of Insurance, Wealth and Asset Management distribution for Powerlytics, a data and analytics startup.  Here Steve was a member of the executive team, responsible for executing on engagement with Tier 1 corporate customers to consult on and deliver Powerlytics' data solutions.


At John Hancock, Steve was President of John Hancock Personal Financial Services LLC and Head of Advice and Innovation. In that role, he was responsible for leading the strategic effort to leverage emerging digital services to enhance John Hancock’s ability to deliver investment advice and financial planning to customers. Simultaneously, Steve built and launched two startup businesses for Hancock (Twine and COIN) serving as CEO for Twine. 

 

Steve spent more than 16 years at New York Life in their Retirement and Investment divisions.  He led the creation and growth of multiple new business and product initiatives, including those related to retirement income, rollover strategy and solution, stable value and DCIO.  He led multiple departments over his time and was member of the senior retirement team that sold the business to John Hancock.

 

Steve is a long time passionate and dedicated executive mentor at MassChallenge. He is a member of the Advisory Boards of Engaged Retirement and InterGen Data.  

He was an Entrepreneur in Residence at Worcester State University and an Executive in Residence for Aviv Growth Partners.  He is also an active angel investor and mentor to early stage startups.   

 

Steve graduated with a B.A. in English from Providence College and is a CFA charterholder. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the Boston Security Analysts Society, Inc.
